OCD Therapy in California
Online ERP Treatment for Intrusive Thoughts and Compulsions
You may know your fears don’t make sense logically — and yet they still feel urgent, real, and impossible to ignore. OCD has a way of creating intense doubt that logic alone can’t resolve. If you’ve been stuck in cycles of intrusive thoughts, checking, reassurance-seeking, mental reviewing, or avoidance, you’re not alone — and this is treatable.
I provide virtual OCD therapy to adults throughout California, offering specialized, evidence-based treatment designed specifically for obsessive-compulsive disorder.
What Living with OCD Can Feel Like
Contrary to what is shown in mainstream media and comments from the general public, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is more than being neat or organized. It often involves unwanted intrusive thoughts that feel disturbing, confusing, or out of character. These thoughts might center around harm, relationships, contamination, morality, sexuality, health, or making the “wrong” decision.
Even though part of you recognizes that the fear may not “make sense,” the anxiety that it brings on can be highly distressing and can feel overwhelming. To cope, you might:
Repeatedly check or seek reassurance
Replay conversations in your mind
Research online for certainty
Avoid certain people, places, or situations
Perform mental rituals to “neutralize” a thought
While you may outwardly appear to be functioning at a high level, internally you are constantly battling your OCD. Over time, OCD can take up hours of your day, impact work and relationships, and leave you feeling exhausted. It can also lead to isolation and strong feelings of shame.
How OCD Therapy Helps
OCD is highly treatable with evidence-based therapy. Real progress happens when you’re supported in facing fears gradually, practicing new responses to anxiety, and building trust in your ability to handle uncertainty. Treatment is structured, collaborative, and practical. We’ll set clear goals and move step by step so you feel supported — not overwhelmed.
While Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the foundation of treatment, I also integrate principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT helps you learn new skills to help you manage your thoughts and feelings more effectively, so that they have less impact and allow you to spend more of your energy on the things that matter most to you.
What Is ERP Therapy?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is an evidence based treatment, which is often referred to as the gold-standard treatment for OCD.
ERP gently helps you face the situations, thoughts, or feelings that trigger anxiety (the “exposure” part) while learning to resist compulsions or reassurance-seeking (the “response prevention” part).
Over time, and with practice, you (and your brain) learn different ways to respond to these triggers, without engaging in compulsions.
ERP is always done gradually and thoughtfully. You are never thrown into something you’re not ready for or willing to do. Instead, we build confidence through manageable steps that help you regain trust in yourself.
What Working With Me Is Like
Starting therapy for OCD can feel scary, especially if your intrusive thoughts feel embarrassing, frightening, or hard to say out loud. It’s important to me to create a safe and non-judgemental space for our work together. Collaboration is also a key component of our work together. While I have some expertise and tools to share regarding OCD, you are the expert of your life and we can be most successful when we work together as a team.
Many clients tell me they were nervous to reach out at first. That’s completely normal. A consultation is simply a conversation to see if working together feels like a good fit — there’s no pressure to commit.
